Corporal Effah Kyere Williams of the Regional CID in Bolgatanga, has been arrested by the Upper East Regional Police Command following the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
He is accused of selling ammunition to suspected armed robbers in the area.
His name cropped up after some robbers mentioned his name as their supplier and was later arrested.
The two suspected robbers Douglas Aline Akologo alias WO and Mumuni Yakubu alias Jacob were arrested after a gun battle with the police during one of their operations.
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police said, ‘So far the Police has retrieved a “Bruni” pistol with two rounds of ammunition together with 165 pieces of explosives from suspect Douglas Ayine Akolgo alias WO during a search in his residence. Further investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of involvement of the Detective Corporal in the illegal sale and transfer of the arms’.
The three have been remanded by the police as they launch investigations into the matter.
