Asawase residents demonstrate over siting of bus terminal on school land

Residents of Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region have demonstrated against a decision to use a school land in the area for a bus terminal.
The aggrieved residents on Saturday morning November 12, 2017 hit the principal streets of Asawase to pour out their displeasure about the decision to use school land for bus terminal.
The aggrieved residents mostly boys were spotted burning car tyres.
The residents speaking to Abusua FM’s reporter Osei Kwadwo said siting a bus terminal on the school land will definitely affect academic performance of the pupils.
The residents however accused the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong Municipality Alidu Seidu for giving the land to transport operators.
“We won’t allow them to use the school land as a bus terminal. We know that Asokore Mampong MCE Alidu Seidu is behind this. Anybody who will try to use the land as a bus terminal will see the bad side of us. We will protect the land from morning till evening. The decision to use the land as bus terminal will affect both teachers and students,” they pointed out.
Efforts to get the MCE to respond to the allegation leveled against him proved futile.
The police were yet to arrive at the scene at the time of filing this report.
