The current dynamic media on the African continent has a duty to change the narrative on how the world views Africa through the stories they write and information they put out there, President Akufo -Addo has articulated.
Delivering an address at the 2017 Bloomberg Africa Business Media Innovators Summit at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City under the theme “The Changing Face of Media and New Hybrid Models”, President Akufo-Addo said the African story so far has been negatively skewed against the continent and that the current breed of African journalists owe the continent a duty to redeem its image.
Ambitious Programme of Government
After the President’s address, he engaged in a panel discussion with the host Matt Winkler, Co-Founder & Editor Emeritus, Bloomberg News, on his government’s programme for Ghana’s development.
President Akufo- Addo alluded to the fact that his government’s programme is a very ambitious one and that was not certain if all of his plans could materialized within the four years mandate he has as a President.
The ABMI 2017 Summit
Africa Business Media Innovators (ABMI) 2017 is a three-day gathering hosted by Matt Winkler, Co-Founder & Editor Emeritus, Bloomberg News, and Justin Smith, CEO of Bloomberg Media. Focused on Africa, but with a global perspective, ABMI17 will explore how best to maintain a flourishing media sector and how business and financial journalism can best contribute to sustainable development on the African continent.
This highly interactive gathering will feature moderated discussions, TED Talk style presentations, extended Q&A sessions, and interviews with media visionaries. The convening is designed for publishers, editors, journalists, entrepreneurs, from business and civil society who can share their experience and perspectives.
Invitations were extended to a select group of global and African luminaries to uncover the emerging trends shaping the media and business reporting landscape. Participants will learn and share their knowledge about innovative best practices and action-oriented strategies to optimize future media success.
