Old school re-union: Police arrest KNUST students

The Ashanti regional police command has arrested 8 students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday.

They were arrested for rioting and causing to a number of vehicles at the stadium during Luv FM’s old school re-union.

Students of Katanga Hall clashed with their counterparts in Unity Hall.

According to a statement issued by the police, the students pelted stones at each other, blocking roads thereby bringing activities in the area to a halt.

The students were taken to the Asokwa police station but were later released on police Enquiry bail.

The students are said to have reported to the police this morning and were asked to report at a later date.

Some of the police personnel who were dispatched to restore calm at the stadium have been captured on camera brutalising some of the students.

The regional command has however apologised for the misconduct exhibited by the police.

It assured not to shield any police officer who misconducts him/herself in the discharge of his/her duties.

The police have launched investigations into the student brutalities.
