People who have been thronging to the Manhyia palace for the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem II have been wowed by the rich display of the Asante culture.
Mourning clothes of different types and colours were showcased by the people who visited the palace to commiserate with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Palanquins and umbrellas of different sizes were also on display by chiefs of Asante descent.
There was drumming and dancing by traditional dancers. Gifts of different kinds were donated to the Asantehene by corporate bodies and individuals.
Rituals were performed by some fetish priests who have smeared powder on their bodies from across the country.
In their anticipation to pay homage to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, some of the fetish priests crawled, danced, jumped in the air with their fetish whisk locally called ‘bodua’.
One of the fetish priestess carried a mortar on her head.
One of the known ‘Komfuo’ fetish priests Kwaku Bonsam wore a smock embedded with live fowls, horns of cattle and other ornaments. Some of the fetish priests also had snail shells embedded in their attire ‘fugu’.
There was invocation by the fetish priests summoning the presence of their deities. They chanted songs and performed some magic.
One of the fetish priest almost died after cutting open his tummy to show the crowd how powerful his deity was. Blood oozed out of his stomach whiles the audience looked on helpless.
He quickly inserted some cotton inside his stomach and the cut magically sealed.
Some of the Fetish Priests also swallowed fire and spat it out whiles others magically brought out monies.
Check out how some of the fetish priests walked towards Otumfuo to greet him:
