Celebrated Ghanaian Highlife musician Amakye Dede has been installed as a chief at Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti region where he hails from.
The honorary chieftaincy title was conferred on him by the Omanhene of Asante Akyem Agogo, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong on January 1, 2018.
The ceremony attracted the musician’s family, friends and other traditional chiefs in the area.
The musician was given the stool name ‘Barima Okyeredom Amakye Dede’ meaning a crowd puller who is influential in the arts and entertainment industry.
Nana Akuoku Sarpong explained that decision to confer on the Highlife legend the chieftaincy title was borne out of the glory he has brought to the Agogo community.
Some of Amakye Dede’s songs include: Broken Promises, To be a man na war, Iron Boy, Handkerchief, Seniwa, Brebrebe yi, Mensuro, Mabre, Sokoo na mmaa pe, Nsuo Amuna, Kose kose, Dabi dabi, Mefre wo, Okyena sesei, Odo nfonii, Nka akyi, M’ani agyina etc.
