The Enyan Ebenezer community in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam district of the Central region is appealing to government to move in quickly to address the transportation challenges in the area in order to save them from imminent danger.
The cocoa farming community surrounded by two key rivers in the area namely Rivers Amissah Okye and Etsia relies on a non functional dilapidated canoe for transportation to their farms and in their dealings with the other adjoining communities which is making movement difficult for them.
The absence of a functional canoe to support their activities according to them is having a toll on their farming business as the people are scared to board the small and poor canoe to their farms fearing a potential accident on the rivers resulting in injuries and potential drowning of their families.
The community indicates that a lady lost her life a few days ago as there was no canoe to ferry her to the adjoining villages for health care.
Efforts according to the residents to get authorities in the area to get them a decent canoe to aid them in their movement have proven futile and are therefore calling on government to come to their aid.
The community, despite its huge population size also lacks basic amenities like schools, clinics among others with students journeying on the rivers to attend school with all the risks involved in using the poor canoe.
