Security in Agogo re-strategized to deal with Fulani menace – MCE & MP

Security has been beefed up in the Asante Akyem Agogo area following clashes between the Operation Cow Leg team (made up of military & police) and nomadic Fulani herdsman.

This was announced after a joint security meeting held behind closed doors by the MP for Asante Akyem North, the DCE for the area and the police.

The new directives will have the operation cow leg team armed to the teeth to protect lives and properties.

The MP Lawyer Appiah Kubi after the meeting was livid with the continuous attacks in the area by these Fulani herdsmen who have had the courage to attack the Security, a situation he describes as absurd.

“I believe for the Fulani herdsmen to be emboldened to attack the security, there must be some backing somewhere. My investigation suggests some big shots in the police are backing them,” he said.

“The Fulani herdsmen are becoming powerful, armed and influencing their way using money. One of their leader’s tried bribing me while I was not yet an MP, so I know they pay their way through these nonsense,’ lawyer Appiah Kubi reiterated.

The Asante Akyem DCE, Oti Boateng also reiterated the commitment of government to safeguard the lives and properties in the District.

“We will not sit aloof for these foreigners to rundown the country. The security have re-grouped and re-strategized to deal with this problem,” he commented.

“The operation Cow Leg is not shaken by these attacks. We will fight on till the end,” he said.

The three military officers and police man who were attacked are responding to treatment at the KATH.

It can be recalled that these Fulani herdsmen attacks on residents in Agogo has become a challenge for the Ashanti Regional REGSEC and several interventions have failed over the years.

It is only hoped that an amicable solution to the situation will be reached to bring peace to the Agogo enclave.

The MP accuseed the Head of the Fulani herdsmen in the region Alhaji Bin Ahmed Osman of attempted to bribe him but they refused the offer.

Alhaji is yet to comment on the matter.
