Foase riot: Confusion erupts at press conference at Foase

Pandemonium broke loose at a press conference organized by Assembly Members in the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti region following Foase riot over relocation of district capital from Foase to Twedie.
Two persons died instantly while others sustained severe injuries in the clash on Wednesday February 7, 2018, after they locked up the District Chief Executive of Atwima Kwanwoma District Hon Okyere Tawiah over the relocation of District capital.
The residents accused the DCE of bidding them farewell by introducing new management members when he and other assembly members visited the palace because the district capital has been moved to Twedie.
The Apemanim Kokoben Electoral Area Rockson Owusu Afriyie addressing the press on behalf of the assembly members said that the District Chief Executive Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi on Wednesday February 7, 2018 visited the Chief of Foase Nana Boasiako Appiah Ampam Frimpong II to introduce two new management members; the District Coordinating Director and the District Head of works to the palace and not to bid them farewell as speculated.
According to him, “so far as the assembly is concerned, per the road map we have been furnished with, it will be strange to assume that the visit was meant to bid the Chief and Foase people farewell”.
The residents in the community were infuriated over the assembly members’ comment disrupting the press conference.
The residents speaking to Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the DCE rather went to tell the chief that the district capital had been moved to Twedie.
The presiding member Emmanuel Asuah Dadzie however called for calm assuring that they will re-address the press on the issue.
