Amidu Approved by Appointments Committee of Parliament

The Special Prosecutor nominee Martin Amidu has unanimously being approved by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, has gathered.

His approval followed some hours after his almost nine-hour grilling by the committee.

According to sources, the committee approved his nomination with just one person objecting.

Members of Parliament (MPs) would have to vote on Mr Amidu before he is cleared to hold his position.

Confirming this on Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkra, the Chairman of the committee Joseph Osei-Owusu, he said a letter will later be written to the President concerning the committee’s approval before he is confirmed entirely.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor is expected to deal with corruption cases in the country.

The Office will also help reduce the workload on existing investigative agencies and, thereby, enhance their effectiveness.
