Mahama revived boxing in Ghana -Nii Lante

The former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has remarked that boxing is thriving in the country now due to the vision of the Mahama administration.

He said the Mahama administration built a gymnasium in the Odododiodoo constituency which has been bringing out more talents and putting Ghana on the international ladder.

According to him, boxing would have been dead if not for the vision of the former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

Speaking with Lantam Papanko on Ultimate Breakfast Show, he said infrastructural developments need to be put in place to revive the sporting disciplines in order to reap the benefits from it.

‘Yes we have great potential to really benefit from the human resources God has given this country as far as sports is concerned… Do you know why boxing is thriving now? because of the vision that President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had in building a boxing gymnasium in my constituency…Ghana boxing is now being shown almost every month on DSTV… Now people are coming from UK to fight in Ghana instead of Ghanaians moving from Accra to UK and the likes to fight,’ he stated.

He observed that there are some crooks in the sporting fraternity who are only interested in their personal gains by killing sports.

‘It takes people with vision, people who will have love and passion for sports to be able to develop the right policies for the development of sports, sports is not only a business, you must have the love for the business, before the commercial and profits start coming in, you will fail if you make it basically commercial,’ he suggested.
