The immediate past Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, Bishop Stephen Richard Bosomtwe Ayensu has called on the Akufo-Addo’s government to use Obuasi gold as a collateral to raise loans to repair deplorable roads in the Obuasi Municipality.
Residents of Obuasi have been complaining bitterly about the poor nature of their road which is currently unmotorable.
The residents of Obuasi have received assurances from past and current governments about the fixing of Obuasi deplorable roads but up till now nothing has been done about it.
Bishop Bosomtwe Ayensu speaking to the media expressed worry about poor road network in the Obuasi Municipality despite the revenue the country generates from Obuasi gold.
According to the outspoken man of God, income generated from Obuasi gold has been used to develop the country, however Obuasi Municipality is still experiencing deplorable road network.
He said “when I was coming from Accra to Obuasi today, I was expecting to see something different as far as Obuasi bad roads network are concerned, but I got to know the situation is the same when I reached Obuasi Community”.
“The situation is very disheartening. How can all the roads in the Obuasi Municipality turn to be a death trap while the assembly generates huge revenue to the country from gold? I want to take this opportunity to appeal to President Akufo-Addo, Road Minister to put proper measures in place to fix Obuasi deplorable roads. If it will take the Akufo-Addo’s government to use the gold in Obuasi as collateral to raise loans to fix Obuasi deplorable roads, they must do it” he added.
