Kumasi Airport: Sixty-six million Euro runway expansion project commences

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo has broken grounds for the commencement of the second phase of the Kumasi Airport in the Ashanti region.

The sixty-six million three hundred and fifty thousand Euro project is to expand the runway, as well as the installation of aeronautic lights to ensure adequate visibility on the tarmac.

The development of the airport will facilitate the export of fresh agricultural produce and support the agricultural sector.

It will further facilitate the growth of domestic air travel and open up the potential growth of traffic in domestic travel.

The expansion of the airport will also help in regards to the exploration of the country’s historic heritage and the development of ecotourism and cultural tourism to support the realization of the great tourist and cultural potential of the Ashanti region.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, President Akufo- Addo said the reconstruction would create a sizeable number of jobs to augment the unemployment numbers in the country.

Aviation minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah indicated that her outfit has begun talks with some airline companies to make the Kumasi airport their hub to fly from Kumasi to other parts of the world.
