The driver at the center of the gory accident on the Cape Coast—Takoradi highway which saw nine persons losing their lives on Saturday has finally handed himself over to the police in the central region.
This was after the police had declared him wanted, thereby calling on residents to help in effecting his arrest to assist in investigation.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla with registration WR 452-12 Martin Kwaku Ntiamoah, 47, according to police investigation was the main architect of the accident as his alleged poor decision to overtake in a curve caused the DAF Flat Body Articulated truck with registration number GT 2273-16 carrying Portland cement on its way from Takoradi to veer off the road in its quest to avoid head on collision.
The Toyota Corolla eventually collided with the oncoming Toyota Hiace Mini bus with registration number GE 4058-12 which had six passengers and a mate dying instantly on the spot with several others suffering various degree of injuries and are receiving treatment at the University of Cape Coast Hospital.
Two others on board the truck also lost their lives to the accident.
According to the police, the suspect indicated that a ‘good Samaritan’ helped him out of the accident scene together with his seven-year-old daughter to the hospital thus denying assertions that he had run away.
The suspect according to the police, is still complaining of pains and so is being sent to hospital for further treatment so that he assists the police in investigation later.
