KUMASI Floods: Scores Feared Dead & Missing After Heavy Rainstorm

Scores of people feared dead and missing after heavy rainstorm ravaged parts of Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region.

Ultimatefmonline.com sources indicate more than 10 people have lost their lives including children after the flood waters washed them away.

NADMO and the Ghana National Fire Service when contacted could not readily confirm the deaths and the extent of damage caused by the rains.

The rains which started in the late afternoon on Thursday lasted for about six hours and saw particularity swampy areas in the metropolis worse affected leaving residents stranded.

Some residents in areas such as Sawaba, Aboabo, Anloga, Kwadaso, Tafo, Sepe Boukrom have been displaced with a number of houses submerged following the downpour.

City authorities have failed to over the years demolish structure in water ways and also desilt choked drains in the metropolis that can ease flow of running water.
