The Australian High Commission on September 1, 2018 officially announced the 2018 application round for the Australian government’s flagship awards scholarships.
As part of activities to promote the scholarships in Ghana, the Australian High Commission is conducting series of free public information sessions and practical application workshops in Kumasi and Accra which started on Monday September 3 and expected to end on September 7, 2018.
The sessions provide an excellent opportunity for prospective applicants to engage with Australia awards program managers and beneficiaries (Alumni).
The presentations cover eligibility requirements, types of scholarships and how to apply for scholarships among others.
Australia Awards Alumni will also share their experiences and advice for applying, living and studying in Australia.
In Kumasi, the workshop took place on Monday 3 September at the Golden Bean Hotel from 9am (morning session) and 2pm for the afternoon session.
In Accra, the public workshop will take place on Thursday 6 September at the Alisa Swiss Spirit Hotel from 9am.
There will also be a series of presentations at selected priority institutions from September 4 to September 7.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Andrew Barnes encouraged prospective applicants who demonstrate strong leadership potential to attend.
“We are delighted to nurture and facilitate local talent and expertise through our programme, so that they can make an important contribution to Ghana’s inclusive growth and development in the future”, he said.
“Through the Australia Awards, they will have access to world-class training and support that enables them to contribute to sustainable development in their workplaces and communities,” he added.
Australia Awards – Africa is a prestigious development assistance programme, which provides all-expense-paid Masters and professional development Short Course scholarships to exceptional African candidates in areas where Australia has a known expertise.
The scholarships are aimed at high calibre, early to mid-career professionals from the public sector, private sector and civil society.
Australia Awards scholarships offer an effective and efficient model supporting a range of strategic foreign policy, economic diplomacy and development objectives across priority sectors.
The scholarships form an integral part of Australia’s development program and help to build critical skills and knowledge. Australia recognizes that education has a central role in development.
Through the creation of a skilled workforce and influencing individual behaviours, values and attitudes, higher education contributes to the formation of highly educated, socially engaged individuals who can develop their countries.
In 2018, the Australian Government awarded 21 Ghanaian professionals with Masters Scholarships.
The successful scholars will commence their studies at various Australian universities from January 2019 in diverse fields within agriculture, extractive, health, environmental management, gender studies and public policy.
Twenty-six applicants from Ghana have also received scholarships to pursue professional development short courses in Australia and across Africa between June 2018 and May 2019.
