Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Kwabena Nsenkyire has disclosed that far from his role of responding to disaster victims; his position as a NADMO boss for the region was strategically offered to him as part of a grand agenda to use national resources to appreciate votes and win all 47 constituency seats for the governing New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Nsenkyire who is the first Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Ashanti region made the rather shocking revelation, speaking to host of Abusua Nkomo Austin Woode on Abusua 96.5FM in Kumasi.
He insisted the motive behind NADMO Co-ordinators using their position to influence votes is an age long practice which begun with the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Porturphy who was once National Co-ordinator of the institution.
Not even the prompting of the host could get him to refrain from the comments.
Kwabena Nsenkyire outlined some relief outreaches his office has embarked on in the Asawase and Drobonso constituencies, deliberately to prepare grounds to wrestle power from the NDC in the 2020 elections.
“When six people died in Muntaka’s community through the floods I was there to help with the search work. It’s my job. You have no idea what I am doing in Drobonso. Why won’t I use my office to help the NPP knowing very well that the NPP brought me there”, he justified.
He further insisted that his office will employ any tactic possible to ensure that no employment opportunity at NADMO goes to any member of the opposition NDC under his watch.
“Imagine financial clearance comes right now for employment and an NDC and an NPP person submit applications. I will deliberately tell the NDC man to come on a Thursday and rather interview the NPP man for the job on Monday.”
He insisted he will even support the Nation Builders Corps if it towed that same line to exclude any member of the NDC from getting recruited under the state graduate employment scheme.
“I will even support it if the NaBCO does same. Another person can be given the job but not an NDC member,” he insisted.
This has left many wondering if the continuous complaints of inadequate resources for the National Disaster Management Organisation and its appeals to well meaning members of the public and benevolent organisations have always been a hoax.
It has also raised teething questions Whether or not there will ever be any fair share of resources to communities if disaster strikes and politically appointed NADMO bosses in the fashion of Kwabena Nsenkyire is to make decisions as to where resources should be prioritized.
